| Description |
The time India came under the British rule, it produced different reactions from the citizens. The first group adopted the western ways and looked upon Indians as uncivilized, the second group lived by the dictates of the scriptures and looked upon all changes as catastrophic and the third group took from the past shastras only, fire and not smoke, and they marked the century. Dr. Radhakrishnan belongs to this third group. He was a great philosopher, of our times and translated Bhagvad Gita, Upanishads, Brahma Sutra etc. In all his works, the striking features are - the ultimateness of spiritual values to be obtained, the need for a holy development of life and the positive attitude of sympathy. He was elected as Vice-President and later as a President of India.
