Satyajit Ray pioneered India's neo-realist cinema by directing 34 long and short features as well as five documentaries, 32 of them in Bengali. His debut in 1955, Pather Panchali ('The Song of the Road') blazed the trail of the genre in the country, became a global rave, subsequently, ranking among the ten best movies of all time.
